Cement and Its Properties

CEMENT

Cement is a binding material mixed with water and aggregate to form concrete or mortar. The mixture of cement and water is called Cement paste..The mixture of cement, water and fine aggregate is called mortar. The mixture of cement, water, fine and coarse aggregate is called Concrete or the mortar fill the voids in the presence of coarse aggregate is called Concrete.

Testing of Cement :- OPC & PPC

  1. Field test
  2. Laboratory test

1. Field test:-

  • Take a look at cement paste, there should not be visible lump.
  • Colour of cement should normally be greenish grey.
  • It should give a cool feeling, when we put hand into the cement bag.
  • Take a pinch of cement bag, it should give a smooth feeling.
  • feel not oily when touched.
  • Take a handful of cement and throw it on a bucket of full of water, the particle should float for some times before they sink.

2.Laboratory test:- Test of OPC: 33,43 and 53 grade

Ordinary Portland Cement- As per BIS
  • Ordinary Portland Cement, 33 Grade- IS 269:2013
  • Ordinary Portland Cement, 43 Grade IS 8112:2013
  • Ordinary Portland Cement, 53 Grade- Specification, IS 12269:2013

  •         Ordinary Portland Cement, 43 Grade IS 8112:2013

Anti Termite Treatment, Pre & Post Construction Termite

A.T.T  is the treatment given to the structure to protect it against Attack by subterranean termites, using a suitable chemical. The   chemical barrier   is a layer of soil in contact with the structure that has been suitably treated with approve chemical, so as to form an impervious barrier to kill that termites The following procedure of anti termite treatment to be done at the project site are based on IS 6313: 2001 The surface of the ground should be clean, compacted and firm. it should be free from any organic impurities. Safety goggles,  gloves  and face mask should be readily available at the site. The person conducting the anti termite treatment should be trained and should be wearing all the above safety gear during the operation. preliminary moisturing should be done when the soil is Sandy, loose and porous because the chemical solution may be lost due to percolation. The chemical treatment of the soil should start only after the foundation trenches and pi

Knapen system of drying walls

Principle of  Knapen system : A difference of 16 °C to 24 °C is required to displace the vitiation air from a building by means of a vertical air shaft. The Knapen Tube : The method of fixing the Knapen tube in the wall. it is a simple porous tube which is fixed with its mouth inclined outwards. As the tubes are porous the moisture of penetrates inside them. Due to difference of temperature the dry air enters in the tube from its top portion as indicated by arrow. This dry air evaporates the moisture and saturated air comes out from the lower portion of the tube. This circulation of air is due to perfectly natural laws, and remains continuous till there is any moisture left in the wall.

ARCHES

An arch is a curved structural member consisting of a number of wedged shaped brick or stone blocks joint together with mortar and spanning on opening to support the weight above.
